Our male emu, Christian, has been with us for ten years. Funny and entertaining, we’ve had him since before the TikTok boom on ratites. They truly are as entertaining as you see online. Christian is curious, mischievous, and slightly naughty but never aggressive. He loves treats and scratches! Each winter, he dutifully tries to make the best possible nest (several sticks in a pitiful pile). Unfortunately for Christian, emu laying cycles coincide with snow showers, so his eggs must be collected daily and hatched in an incubator to avoid freezing. He is a standard (brown) emu.

The newest emu pair welcomed to our farm are Bryan, a unique blonde, and Marilyn, a rare white emu. They hatched here in 2023 from unrelated purchased eggs. It will be a few years before they gift us with eggs, but we look forward to the distinctive chicks they will share!

Our emus are raised as pets. We appreciate them for their eggs, their amusing personalities, and the character they add to the farm. Emus cannot be kept free-range. They can clear a fence shorter than six feet, and believe me - if they are not tamed, they are nearly impossible to catch or bribe back into an enclosure. We have taken numerous precautions to keep ours in their respective areas. They enjoy sharing a pasture with our horses, goats, and sheep.
